Is it safe?

Whether colloidal silver is safe depends on how it is used. We sell ours for external use only and make no medical claims. The serious risks reported — chiefly argyria — come from drinking large amounts over a long period, not sensible external use.

This guide covers whether colloidal silver is safe: the real risks, where they come from, why external use is different, and what is in our bottle.

It is one of the most-searched questions about colloidal silver, and the answers online swing between two extremes.

Here is a calm, honest version. For more straight answers, see our colloidal silver questions answered.

Is colloidal silver safe?

It depends on what you do with it — we sell ours for external use only, and make no medical claims about it.

The serious concerns you read about are almost always about drinking large amounts over a long period — not sensible external use.

What are the actual risks of colloidal silver?

The main one has a name: argyria.

It is a rare, permanent, cosmetic blue-grey tint to the skin, and it builds up from heavy, prolonged exposure to silver over months or years. We cover the real numbers in will colloidal silver turn me blue?.

UK-made colloidal silver, from £16.95

Most colloidal silver uses water purified once, if at all. We use two stages — reverse osmosis, then distillation — then bottle in dark glass. 10, 100 and 200 ppm, in dropper, spray or 500ml refill.

Is external use safer than drinking it?

External use is generally regarded as lower-risk than taking it internally.

We won’t pretend it is completely without risk — but it is a very different thing from drinking it daily for years, which is where the worrying reports come from.

What’s actually in your colloidal silver?

One way to think about safety is to know exactly what you are handling.

  • Two ingredients — silver and double-purified water, nothing else.
  • A known strength — a stated 10, 100 or 200 ppm, so you always know the concentration.
  • Dark glass — bottled in dark glass, never plastic, and sold for external use only.

Should I check with a doctor first?

If you have a health condition, are pregnant, or take medication, speak to your GP or pharmacist before using it.

Colloidal silver is not a medicine, and it has not been assessed by the MHRA. There is more on that in colloidal silver and the MHRA.

Why buy from Health is a Choice

We make our colloidal silver in the UK, the way we would want it for our own family. We don’t purify our water once — we do it twice.

It is first cleaned by reverse osmosis, then distilled on top of that, before we suspend real silver in it and bottle it in dark glass — never plastic.
