Colloidal silver and the MHRA
The MHRA is the UK body that regulates medicines. Colloidal silver is not a licensed medicine and has not been assessed or approved by the MHRA as one. We sell ours as a simple product for external use only, and make no medical claims about it.
This guide covers colloidal silver and the MHRA: what the MHRA is, why it is not a licensed medicine, whether it is legal, and why we make no claims.
We would rather be upfront about the rules than tiptoe around them, so here is exactly where we stand.
It is short, honest, and it explains why our site reads the way it does. For more straight answers, see our colloidal silver questions answered.
UK-made colloidal silver, in dark glass
Double-purified water — reverse osmosis, then distilled — with real silver. Made in the UK.
What is the MHRA?
The MHRA is the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
It is the UK body responsible for regulating medicines and medical devices, and for making sure anything sold as a medicine meets proper standards.
Is colloidal silver a licensed medicine in the UK?
No. Colloidal silver is not a licensed medicine, and it has not been assessed or approved by the MHRA as one.
That is simply the factual position, and we are not going to dress it up as anything else.
Is it legal to sell colloidal silver in the UK?
It can be sold — but not as a medicine, and not as a food supplement.
That is why we sell ours as a simple product for external use only, with no medical claims attached to it.
Why do you make no medical claims about it?
Because it is not a licensed medicine, it cannot be sold as one.
Making medical claims about colloidal silver would be both wrong and against the rules. So we don’t — not on our product pages, and not in these guides.
What does that mean for me as a customer?
In plain terms, here is what it means for you.
- A clean product — honestly described, with no inflated promises.
- Not a medicine — for a specific health condition, please speak to your GP or pharmacist.
- Carefully made — UK-made colloidal silver, bottled in dark glass, for external use only.

Why buy from Health is a Choice
We make our colloidal silver in the UK, the way we would want it for our own family. We don’t purify our water once — we do it twice.
It is first cleaned by reverse osmosis, then distilled on top of that, before we suspend real silver in it and bottle it in dark glass — never plastic.
